Located in Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucestershire, on the edge of the Cotswold Hills, the Ancient Rams Inn is often claimed to be the most haunted site in Great Britain.

The Inn dates back to 1145 and was constructed to house slaves, builders, and masons associated with the nearby St. Mary’s Church. Prior to the inn’s construction, the land was cited as being a Pagan burial ground.

In or around 1968, the building was purchased by John Humphries to prevent its destruction.

It didn’t take long before Mr. Humphries experienced firsthand the terrifying paranormal events attributed to the structure. He claims to have been dragged from his bed and attacked by demonic forces. He later discovered evidence of the murder of children on the property after finding daggers and skeletal remains. It’s claimed that devil worship and ritual sacrifices had frequently taken place on the grounds.

Numerous entities are said to haunt the establishment, including a witch who was burned at the stake, The so-called witch made her escape as she was being pursued and took refuge at the Inn,  though she was soon caught and her gruesome punishment was carried out.

The Bishops Room is reportedly haunted by two monks who stand in a corner of the room, surrounded by a glowing light. Additionally, the spirit of a cavalier has been spotted pacing back and forth across the floorboards.

An old barn dating back to the 1800s stands on the property and is host to a specter that has been known to attack male visitors, though it is said to act favorably towards females.

These are just a few of the many paranormal events that take place at the old Inn. For those looking for a truly frightening experience, visitors are welcome at the Inn for an overnight visit…..if you dare!
